What makes MARCOS so effective and lethal force

Marcos TrainingThere are special forces and then there is the Indian Navy’s Marine Commandos. The Indian Navy’s elite special force, that specializes in everything from counter-terrorism to underwater operations and sabotage to anti-piracy ops.

MARCOS was raised as the Indian Marine Special Forces (IMSF) in 1985. Two years later, they were renamed the Marine Commando Force (MCF). Those that clear the selection then start undergoing grilling course which includes basic training at INS Abhimanyu in Mumbai. The trainees then train in para jumps at the Paratrooper Training School in Agra & a diving course at Navy’s Diving School in Kochi.

MARCOS are widely feared among the terrorists, who call them “Dadiwala fauj” The meaning the “Bearded army” because of their bearded disguise in civil areas.

Training :

They are expected to have a reaction time of 0.27 seconds.

(MARCOS) The training period is 2 years. For 3 to 4 weeks in a first phase, they get physical training and tests and only 40 to 50% (in physical training phase) candidates pass this phase. All over drop rate during while training drop rate is 80–90%. After this, they get training in weapons and intelligence for approx 1 year.

After this, they do one more training again.

They are capable of para-dropping into the sea with full combat load and equipment.

They are trained for warfare on sea, land, and air.

They attend the four-week high-altitude commando course run by the Parvat Ghatak School in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, and this course is specially tailored for Indian conditions. The training is structured and precise and has attracted interest from the United Navy seals prior to their operations in Afghanistan.

They are taught to fire their guns lying down, in full sprint and a full backward sprint. Also, they are taught to shoot looking in a mirror.
